Socialist Agriculture in East Germany, June 1978
This month’s speaker is Michael Graefe, FAIA, President, Ag Institute Australia, Victoria Division. Michael visited Dresden in the then German Democratic Republic (GDR) to reconnect with wider family after 33 years and to attend that nation’s only Educational AGRA Exhibition at Leipzig. His talk is about his visit which was captured in a richly colour slide-illustrated presentation. It includes fascinating insights into the production organisation, its peculiar methods, strengths and weaknesses, some peculiar political aspects and what people really thought about rampant Socialism. Strangers gravitated towards Michael to pour out their woes over their own nation, where they were virtual prisoners of “The System”. Interesting History!
The venue, Elgin Inn Hotel, 75 Burwood Road, Hawthorn, 1st Floor. W: http://elgininn.com.au/
