Victoria Division Lunch - Tuesday 1 August 17 at 12.00 PM:
The talk titled Application of sensor technologies to improve productivity and welfare of livestock will be provided by Dr Markandeya (Mark) Jois, BVSc., MVSc., PhD, Senior Lecturer, School of Life Sciences, La Trobe University on his research to Members.
The past decade has seen an exponential growth in the use of Smart Sensor Technology, especially the development of ultra-portable sensor systems segment called wearables. Recent research conducted by La Trobe University researchers shows that these wearables can be used to collect a range of useful on-farm animal behaviour data such as grazing, walking, rumination, proximity with other animals etc. Dr Jois will discuss some of these results and illustrate how these emerging technologies may be applied to improve productivity and welfare of sheep and cattle industries.
The venue is the Elgin Inn Hotel, 75 Burwood Road, Hawthorn.
Members are to purchase their food and drink requirements downstairs before proceeding upstairs for the Lunch and talk.
Please RSVP by Sunday 30 July 17 to Jim Hooper P: (03) 9818 7662 or firstname.lastname@example.org .
