Dr Jock Allison, B.Agr.Sc., M.Agr.Sc., Lincoln, PhD., Sydney 1970, ONZM, FNZIPIM is visiting from New Zealand. He was Director of AgResearch (Crown Research Institute) 1992 to 1999, the NZ Wool Board 2000 to 2003. Received an ONZM (Officer of the NZ Order of Merit,), 2000, Lincoln Bledisloe Medalist 2003.
Jock completed his PhD studies in reproductive physiology. Worked alongside Doug Killeen at the University’s property at Jerilderie. Returned to the Ministry of Agriculture Research Station at Invermay close to Dunedin in 1970. Became Regional Director of Agricultural Research for the Southern South Island for MAF in 1978, and during an 8 year tenure increased the number of scientists from 20 to 45, built new facilities and greatly increased the flow of information to the farming industry.
1986 onwards, managed a major sheep importation programme (Texels, Oxford Downs and Finnish Landrace), and started work towards importation of Awassi sheep from Israel and East Friesians from Sweden. More recently successful importations of Belltex embryos from the UK, 2017, 2018.
