Twelve years ago the AIA Queensland Division ran a symposium focusing on the challenges and opportunities for agriculture in a changing Carbon economy. Some of these findings are even more relevant today.
The Proceedings from this symposium, held in Brisbane, September 2008, can be found in our Members Lounge area under Publications (login required).
With the recognition that increasing climatic variability or ‘Climate Change’ is being driven, at least in part by greenhouse gas emissions and with the development of National policy to reduce these emissions, the Queensland Division of AIAST has seen this Symposium as timely – albeit that Government policies are currently a moving footpath, the subject of intense lobbying, debate and ongoing scientific and economic input. Australians generally have little understanding of the implications of a changing Carbon economy. The broad debate has not yet clarified or promoted an authentic understanding of this complex issue, evidenced by a level of confusion in the wider community.
